Cobham Announces Helisas® Training

On Course Solutions has been endorsed by Cobham to provide the authorized training program for HeliSAS®

On Course Solutions provides on-site pilot training for the HeliSAS® Autopilot and Stability Augmentation System. Training includes classroom and in-flight instruction on the capabilities and operating techniques for achieving the maximum benefits provided by HeliSAS®.

Classroom Instruction (2.5 hours)

• Basic theory of helicopter autopilot systems
• HeliSAS® system components
• Review of RFMS and Pilot Handbook

Ground Checks and In-flight Instruction (1.5 hours per pilot)

• System self-test on start
• SAS-only operations
• Outer loop modes

After successful completion of HeliSAS® training, pilots will receive an Official Certificate of Training.

Instruction provided by Jim Shirey

Jim Shirey is an experienced helicopter industry professional with over 8,500 flight hours in helicopters and airplanes. As a former factory test pilot and FAA Consultant DER for Helicopter Flight Test, he has participated in a number of certification programs for helicopter automatic flight control systems. In his previous position with Cobham, Jim served as the Product Line Director for HeliSAS® development and is fully versed in the nuances of the HeliSAS® autopilot system.
